This is a site for campaigning against violence in TV programs, especially prime time programs rated for general viewing. I most especially appeal to the local TV networks - CHANNEL 7 & CHANNEL 2, most especially CHANNEL 7 as it is the leading local network.
I appeal to you to read and "listen " to these facts presented to you based on several studies done internationally.
This campaign is meant to protect children from TV violence.

Count me in in your grand advocacy to protect our children from TV violence. Our kids are very vulnerable at their age and anything they see on television will surely affect their behavior in the future. Thanks for your noble advocacy. God bless.
Dear jena, for the well-being it is crucial, that our minds are not troubled and filled with fear, anger or bad emotions. Since all tv-entertainment needs a hook to catch the attention of the audience they always have a choice which hook it should be.
Why should violence be a good hook. Our life is full of interesting conflicts which may serve as a blueprint for entertainment. To be loved or not. The quest for needs and understanding.
Yes, Struggling Blogger, and not only parents but everyone else should work in eradicating this - the government (thru laws), the media (censorship for Children's programs)and everyone.
Thank you for having this campaign, you have my support on this one. Seems that tv violence can be seen in any form of show, even on kid's cartoons. Keep this campaign up!!
I'm not pro-violence. I don't like violence in general, but I do enjoy some violent TV shows -- mostly crime dramas like CSI or Law & Order.
BUT, if you so strongly feel that television has too much violence on it, can't you either restrict your children from watching it, or just not have TV in your home?
How come I, a non-violent, responsible adult, should not get to watch these shows because some parents are concerned about their children, but can't parent them?
My parents did shelter me in my youth, but there certainly was violence on TV, and in video games. I just didn't see it at home.
As technology improves, parental controls will only get better. But in the meantime, what right does the government have in restricting certain programs from being aired?
I'm sure this isn't a popular opinion here, but it just seems wrong that I should be restricted from viewing these shows responsibly because some kids, somewhere, may be corrupted by them.
I agree with you, adults should not be restricted to watch what they would want to watch because they have the maturity to discern what is fact or fiction.
I am referring to TV programs rated for GP (general patronage- which includes children).
If you would want to read the earlier entries explaining why, then I would appreciate it a lot.
I am not affected per se, as I can control and restrict my kid's viewing. I am most concerned about those who cannot, because of various inevitable reasons.
If the government restricts adult scenes for children, then violent scenes should also be batched under this category.
It is just like saying when someone lost his wallet; "It's his fault, he just left his wallet on the table," then we are sending a wrong message to the younger generation.
No matter where a person leaves his wallet, if we had taught our children about the value of honesty, then nothing would get lost.
I know you know what I mean.

How about instead of trying to censor television, parents pay closer attention to what their children watch? It's the parents job to make sure their kids don't watch the things they shouldn't, not network TV.
You're right about the parents' responsibility in seeing to it that their children watch good programs.
But like any aspect of society's goals, this campaign would not be successful if everyone does not cooperate in this endeavour.
There must be a concerted effort from all sectors of society to make this goal succeed.
Just like the case of robbery, rape, murder; each individual has the responsibility to be careful but still the government, law enforcement agencies, even the church and all citizens must come as one to be ablt to fight this successfully.
This applies with violence in TV.
Is there a positive contribution of violence in TV to children? The answer is NONE.
TV producers, directors, and those in TV media or even films should at least consaider not their earnings - but the positive ideas, thoughts and vaues that their programs, movies, teleseryes, telenovelas promote. Are they spreading positive values?

I don't have any protest when adults view these, but children? well, that's another story for me.
